Offshore or inshore

Two ways to fish the waters off Quepos

Nutrient-rich currents pull an unusual range of game fish toward the same stretch of coast. Pick the deep blue, the rocky points, or a little of both.

Offshore

The deep blue

Beyond the shelf, sailfish show up most of the year, with blue and striped marlin, yellowfin tuna, mahi-mahi and wahoo moving through with the seasons. Built for three-quarter and full-day trips.

Inshore

Along the coastline

The rocky points and river mouths around Quepos and Manuel Antonio hold roosterfish, snapper, jack crevalle and grouper. Close to shore, on lighter tackle, and ideal for families and first-time anglers.

The departure point

Every trip leaves from Marina Pez Vela

Marina Pez Vela is Quepos's full-service marina, right at the edge of town and a short drive from the hotels of Manuel Antonio. It has secure docks, restaurants and parking, so the day starts without hassle.

From the marina, the offshore grounds and the rocky points of the coast are both within easy reach, which is why Quepos is one of the most complete fishing ports on the Pacific side of Costa Rica.

Beyond the boat

Make it a full Quepos trip

Quepos is about three and a half hours by road from San José airport (SJO), or a short domestic flight to Quepos La Managua (XQP). Once you are here, the beaches and rainforest of Manuel Antonio are minutes away, and a few trusted local partners can fill the rest of your days.
